Bold, Inclusive, and Timeless: The Story Behind House of Sebo’s Winter Collection

AFI Insider

House of Sebo is more than a fashion brand-it’s a living tribute to heritage, confidence, and the power of self-expression. Founded by Disebo Mahlangu, the brand is deeply rooted in her personal journey and African pride.

"Fashion was always part of my life. It wasn’t just something I wore, it was something I understood,” she shares.

The true catalyst for establishing the brand, came after the passing of her mother, Lindiwe.

“She always believed I should start a clothing brand, and after she passed, I felt called to honour her vision and legacy by bringing House of Sebo to life.”

Disebo’s unique style, shaped by her years as a recording artist and retail buyer, is woven into every House of Sebo piece. And her heritage plays a major role in her garments.

“My mother was Xhosa, and my father is Sotho, and those cultural influences come through in the prints and patterns we use. There’s also a strong influence from my time on stage-the glamour, the confidence-which you’ll see in our bold silhouettes, the rich brocades, and signature touches of gold.”

For Disebo; “House of Sebo is about being bold, unique, and unapologetically yourself-just like my journey. It’s where culture meets glam.”

Inclusivity is at the heart of House of Sebo. “To me, inclusivity means creating a space where every woman feels seen, celebrated, and confident in her skin, no matter her size, shape, or background. Our garments are not just scaled versions of one standard size; we pay attention to how different bodies move, fit, and feel.”

As a former performing artist, she understands the allure of making a statement with your garment, even before someone engages with you.

“Being in the entertainment industry taught me that presence is everything, and I want every woman who wears House of Sebo, to feel like she belongs on a stage-bold, radiant, and unforgettable.”

And who is that woman? “The House of Sebo woman is bold, confident, and unapologetically herself. She knows her worth and isn’t afraid to go after what she believes in. She’s driven, hardworking, and walks into every room with purpose… She was born to stand out.”

She designs for women who want their clothes to reflect their power and grace, with striking details that speak to their bold spirit and refined taste.

For the House of Sebo Winter 2025 collection at House of Nala, she looked at classic silhouettes that will stand the test of time.

“This season is all about timeless elegance, warmth, and bold sophistication. Our standout item, the Darling Rose Coat, is crafted from rich rose gold and black brocade, fully lined, and designed to provide both warmth and glamour.”

The coat is also available in black brocade.

Another standout is the Ezweni Black Dress, which she describes as “a classic black piece elevated with striking ruffle details and our signature print, which brings through our Sotho heritage.” The dress transitions seamlessly from day to night.

Looking ahead, Sebo’s vision for the brand is clear.

“I want House of Sebo to become a symbol of modern African sophistication-where our stories are told through every silhouette, every stitch, and every runway.  African luxury is not an alternative. It is the standard. It is original, powerful, and timeless.”

House of Sebo is available at House of Nala Sandton City, Shop U47A, Upper Shopping Level.
