How To Wear Summer's Top Trends From House of Nala

As both the visual merchandiser and garment merchandiser at House of Nala, a big part of my role requires curation of the best garments available by designers around the continent.

I then get the opportunity to tell great stories about Africa through the clothes we have in store.   

This season the designers have really fallen in love with browns, nudes, tan and copper and shades of blue.   

All Things Brown & Beautiful  

Already a major trend from the international runways, shades of brown, copper and tan are a major trend this season. Here are the key items and how to style them 

Malondie’s Chocolate Brown Dress  

  • A versatile dress, you can wear this as a midi-dress, a mini-dress (with just a small tug on the strings) or as a top and styled with jeans or a pair of cigarette trousers.  
  • Accessorise with jewellery by Adele DeJak and the unique bags by LaurenceAirline. 
  • Finish off the outfit with sandals by Loza Maléombho.


 LaurenceAirline’s Pants La Raffia

The two-tone LA Raffia wide trousers, in two-tone colours combine two types of linen fabric and raffia fringes.

  • Give them a business edge with the brown linen shirt by Gvllvnt. This look, with a pair of loafers (or heels!) is perfect to showcase the versatility of resort-style clothing.  

Blue Hues  

Blue is always a great colour for summer and this season we have some excellent options from AFI Privé, Kente Gentlemen, Eric Raisina, Karabo Kopong and Malondié. Here are the key looks and how to style them.  

AFI Privé Agbada Kimono 

Royal blue Agbada Kimono with floor-length drape. It features a wide kimono collar, intricate black and gold brocade trim along the neckline, front opening, and sleeves. The kimono is buttoned down the front for a clean and elegant look

This best-seller can be worn as both a kimono and a kaftan. But take it a step further by wearing it as a throw over for your swimwear. It will go great with the blue hat by Bhut’Omdala and Loza Maléombho’s sandals.

The bubble hemline is a major trend this season and in denim is ticking off two trends at once. 

Kente Gentlemen’s The Baba II Double-Breasted Suit Jacket 

Made in Senoufo fabric, the exceptionally tailored jacket is a great unisex garment.  

  • Wear the jacket with navy trousers and a white shirt, just to bring an element of classic gentlemen (or lady!)
