Each ShweShweKini piece has a Sesotho name with a meaning attached to it, which is a way of educating people about the Sotho culture.

Shweshwekini at House of Nala: Summer Vibes in Autumn

AFI Insider

As autumn approaches, it's tempting to stash away our summer favourites. But why should we? With some clever layering, we can get more wear out of them.

The latest Shweshwekini collection, now at House of Nala One&Only Cape Town, is also here to challenge that notion. It’s a reminder that swimwear isn't just for sun-kissed days; it's designed to be your go-to for any occasion, no matter the season.

Shweshwekini is more than just a brand; as founder Refiloe Mapitso Thaisi says, it's a love letter to African culture.

Shweshwekini is more than just a brand; as founder Refiloe Mapitso Thaisi says, it's a love letter to African culture.

The Lesotho-born designer, who has showcased at Cape Town Fashion Week, prides herself on building a quintessentially African and modern brand. The brand’s name is an amalgamation of Shweshwe, the textile made famous by BaSotho and Bikini.

For this collection, she has looked into the iconic sunsets of Southern Africa, and it is no surprise that the collection has found a home at House of Nala One&Only Cape Town.

"This collection beautifully captures the vibrant colours and hues of the African sunset, reflecting the warmth and beauty of the continent. It's a celebration of life and culture, expressed through the unique designs and patterns of Shweshwe fabric,” she explains.

“The gold-plated trims with the ShweShwekini engraving are a brilliant touch. It adds a luxurious and sophisticated feel to the swimwear, perfectly complementing the vibrant Shweshwe fabric and the African sunset inspiration."

Bringing Summer Vibes into Autumn with ShweShwekini

There are many ways to turn swimwear into clothing and luckily Shweshwekini swimwear perfectly lends itself to that.

Swimsuit as Bodysuit

ShweShwekini swimsuit and turning it into a chic bodysuit. Pair it with a pencil skirt, a sharp jacket, and a scarf, and you're ready to take on the boardroom.

Or, swap the suit for a flowy maxi skirt and palazzo pants for a night out with friends that's as stylish as it is fun.

And when the weekend rolls around, layer it under shorts and a cropped shirt for a relaxed, effortless look.

The Menswear Edit

The men's shirts are just as versatile.

The Men's Havana short-sleeve shirt is perfect for a smart casual vibe at the office. Wear it with a suit or complementary trousers and jacket.

Wear it oversized shirt-style with your chinos and loafers for a relaxed occasion.

Or wear it as it was meant to be worn- as part of a set with the matching Havana Swim Shorts.

So, if you are looking for great quality swimwear with unique prints and stories, then Shweshwekini is the right option for you. Besides, it’s always warmer somewhere in the world.
